In this post I want to explore Benkler’s five desirable characteristics of a public sphere, thinking particularly about what he adds to other contributions, particularly in the context of the transformation of the public sphere by the internet.
The characteristics Benkler wants to see in a public sphere are: universal intake, filtering for political relevance, filtering for accreditation, synthesis of opinion, and freedom from government control.
